Five Minute Friday — Break

Yesterday I celebrated 22 years with my husband. We met 22 years ago over a crazy blind date. While it was a milestone for us, but a tough day personally.

The people on my mind are our pastors in England and the family with the death of their daughter. We were looking forward to finally meeting her after corresponding with her online for so long. I have no doubts that she is in heaven. As her dad stated, she was beyond this world. My heart breaks for her husband who is now a widow.

And then while we were praying for them and catching up with ONE friend, we received separate messages about another two friends. One with death and the other with a parent giving their last hours. And then our neighbor was celebrating his 5th birthday. Mourn, Celebrate. Mourn. Celebrate.

At times like these I lean on the words of Paul. Paul tells us, “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn” (Romans 12:15). Rejoicing is easier than mourning, but both are part of the human experience in this fallen world. But what gives me comfort is that God’s heart breaks when my heart breaks.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

Dear Reader,

Guess what? Even if you feel alone, God is with you always. In the moments you may not think he’s near, he’s still watching over you, speaking words of hope, comfort, and peace.

May the God of peace bring you comfort during every heartbreak.

Yours,

Deirdre
