Every Friday, I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. And I literally write it in 5 minutes. The prompt this week is … deserve.

My dad was 39 when I was born. I was 39 when he died.

Our relationship was a roller coaster filled with more downs than ups.

I never knew the love of a father. I always felt that I was given what I deserved. I was a bad daughter.

Our foundation was based on earthly things how I looked, how I dressed—my success.

I felt that true love was something I didn’t deserve.

Then I met Jesus. My life changed. My heart changed. I was never the same. I accepted him as my heavenly father.

Love is the foundation of my walk with him. And he was always so kind and faithful to me. He sustained me through the hurt and the pain of my earthly father. He loved me.

He never cared about how I looked, dressed, or my success. He just called me daughter and sang over me.

His love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I am an overcomer because of him. I am his daughter. I am his prize. I am not perfect, but I am thankful his grace draws me back to him.

Today, I walk in hope.

Daughter. You are his. You are deserving of his goodness.

Son. You are his. You are deserving of his goodness.

No matter the trauma. No matter the background.

You are deserving of his goodness.

For the LORD is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting And His faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:5.
