Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. And I literally write it in 5 minutes. The prompt this week is … middle.

Mom and Godmom with Me in the Middle

There are moments that I dig out my wedding pictures and I stare at a picture of me in the middle of my mother and my godmother. These two women were the ladies who raised me and loved me.

My mother of course gave birth to me and loved me unconditionally and wanted God’s best for me. My mother was a single mother. She had so many dreams for me that went unfilled, but acknowledges that my dreams are so much better than what she could have dreamt for me herself. She met my godmother in high school and they were fast friends. They reunited when I was born. My mother was looking for a babysitter and my godmother was looking for someone to babysit. My godmother was a single mother to 4 kids who was about to experience an empty nest. Seemed like God was in the middle of their meeting and then my Godmother took me in.

If I were to look at all of the strength and prayers of the women in the bible, I would match their names with a piece of all of them. The infertility theme in Hannah, sitting at Jesus feet like Martha, worshiping as Miriam, and obeying a difficult call as Mary did when she accepted the call to mother Jesus. Their testimonies filled with complete grace and God’s love. Above all, they are Nanny and Gogo to my son and he simply adores them.

As I gaze at the picture one last time, I think to myself how truly blessed I am that these women were my foundation in life. I do not think that I could see my life without them. In the middle of both of them, is one of the greatest joys of my life.

“God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.” — Psalm 46:4
