Five Minute Friday — Own

The season of Lent rolls around, and I listen to the sermons at church and go through tradition. This year I’ve taken fasting and praying extremely seriously. I begin my day with a book of the Bible and take time to pray through it throughout the day. I have more moments of stillness to read the story of Jesus and process his life in my heart. This year, I’ve become more evident and more in tune with what he says, good or bad, happy or sad.

One of these things is the reminder that I am his “own.” In my car ride to work, I asked myself: What does that mean? The three scripture passages immediately came to mind.

1. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. John 14:20.

2. The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

3. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2: 8–9

Because this is a 5-minute entry, I do not have the time to go into detail about how God is showing me that I am his “own” in these passages, but maybe it is for the Reader to pray and seek God to find out for themselves. :)

Dear Reader,

As we approach Easter and are reminded of the gift of the Gospel, I pray that these scripture passages will bring a sweet closeness to you and our savior.

Love,
Deirdre
