Five Minute Friday — Reach

There is nothing like reaching out to tiny hands to hold and hug.

That is the best part of being a mom and a preschool teacher.

My sister’s dog was put down, and my son was very sad about it. He’s known the dog since he came to the United States from South Africa. When he came from South Africa, he had a fear of dogs. My mom told us to leave him with her, and she would get him used to my sister’s dog, Lily. Lily’s story is similar to my son’s, but they formed a bond that turned our son into a huge animal lover. While chatting with him about Lily’s death, he reached out for a huge cuddle. After the cuddle, he was still sad, but he shared that he felt it was fine to be sad. In my mind, he was comforted.

Sometimes you just need a hug or as I call them a “cuddle”. There are days that my students and son need encouragement or a cuddle. They run to me, and I reach out my arms to them. And afterward, we all feel at peace. I am at peace because I’m doing what I can to comfort them and make them feel better and they are being comforted. This is how we can go to our heavenly father. We can reach out to him, and he will embrace us and comfort us.

“May your unfailing love be with us , Lord, even as we put our hope in you.” Psalm 33:22

Dear Reader,

Simply reach out to God. He will help comfort you and love you, as you put your hope in him. He loves you. And I love you too.

Yours,

Deirdre
