Five Minute Friday — Replace

The death of Pastor Tim Keller rocked us all. Of course, it led me to read his books and listen to his sermons. In one of his books, he talks about what it means to have a heart for God. I’m paraphrasing, so forgive me if I butcher it; he says that when you genuinely have a heart for God, you are very aware of your actions. You do not react or do things because you want glory for yourself or to make yourself look good; you do something because you know your actions have a chain reaction. Thus, how I treat my son affects how he will treat others, and it is my job as his parent to ensure I’m in line with God’s heart. (I have five minutes, so forgive me for the butcher, Pastor Keller).

Now, during this time of fasting and praying, I’ve been asking God to replace my heart with his. I’ve wanted God to give me the heart Pastor Keller spoke about in his book. Religion over the years has taught me that it is about my glory, but I want that replaced with a heart of his glory.

Dear Reader,

Take the time today to ask God for his heart. Replace our heart for his heart. It is there that we find his presence and his joy.

Love,

Deirdre

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51:10–11
