Five Minute Friday — Soon

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

My husband and I are in the middle of another adoption process. We’ve had every setback imaginable. We often think that our son would be fine as an only child. You can imagine the insensitive comments that go with growing your family and not producing sooner than later. I feel that if you are trying to get pregnant, then people tell you to adopt. If you are trying to adopt, people ask you to get pregnant. People want to see quick results and live in the land of SOON, instead of going through the process.

Why did I start with Genesis 1:1?

The creation story is a record of how God created the earth. He did it carefully and thoughtfully. If God lived in the SOON part of life, the darkness and life would have no meaning. The birds in the air would have no meaning. Nothing would have meaning, and it would not make sense. God works in his timing according to his direction.

The same with growing our family.

I’m constantly reminded of the years it took for our son to come to us through adoption. It took a long time. Thoughtful planning. But during those years, God prepared our hearts and the hearts around us for this amazing kid.

Dear Reader,

God moves in HIS own time, under HIS direction. It is up to us to be good stewards of the waiting process. While God helps us wait, he grows, moves, and shapes us. God wants us to rest in him. And trust him.

So while I want this adoption process to end SOON, I will wait for the Lord and rest in HIS timing.
