Hope is the Remedy
Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. And I literally write it in 5 minutes. The prompt this week is … remedy.
Miriam, is the daughter of Jochebed and Amram. She is a descendent of Levi and sister of Aaron and Moses. To save her brother Moses, her mother, Jochebed worked to place him safely in the river. Miriam kept watch and made sure Moses was safe. I believe with Miriam faith was the remedy to sustain Miriam during this pivotal moment in the life of Moses.
As we all know, Moses was found by Pharaoh’s daughter. The bible says that she instantly took pity on him. There were many questions as to why they put the baby at that part of the Nile River. Did the mother know that Pharaoh’s daughter would be there and have compassion for her baby? Why was Miriam watching the basket and how long was she going to watch him? Whether Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe in the stream or wash her clothes in it, we are not told in the book of Exodus.
Out of the shadows the young Miriam stepped forth so innocently, and played a role that was pivotal to this story. Young Miriam asked if the princess would want a nurse for the crying baby. It is not mentioned in the bible why Miriam kept her silence and did not reveal her relation to the baby and the nurse she secured. One would think that a child her age would have a “slip of the tongue” and mention that she was the sister of the baby. She does not mention any relation to the baby, but then quickly thinks strategically to mention her mother could help the princess with the baby.
I always read this story and think that Miriam is a hopeful person. Hope was the remedy! Hope was the thing that helped them overcome this struggle with Moses. This story teaches us that despite a tough situation, we will always overcome and that hope will always be the remedy for their soul.
