Passing the Torch

Today, I had a meeting with my new boss, and she shared with me the history of my classroom. Minus the incredible view, it was the “school home” of a beloved teacher who passed away a couple of years ago.

The classroom is dedicated to her. There is a sign outside the door and a school proclamation. She also has her own buddy bench outside the classroom that I used with a student today.

I honestly do not know what to say about this. The only thing I can think about is the passing of the torch from Moses to Joshua. The relationship with Moses was different with God versus God’s relationship with Joshua. Mrs. Cato’s relationship with the school is going to be different from my relationship with the school.

I will find my way at my new school. I will not be Mrs. Cato, but I will be myself. But I pray that Mrs. Cato would be proud of the work that I will accomplish at the school.

I’ve read statements from her, and she’s taught so many children in 30+ years. Her passion and thoughtfulness for children is something that is to be admired.

I feel like God is speaking volumes through this, and I’m listening.

Rest in Peace, Mrs. Cato. I wish I knew you. :)
