The Case of the Christmas Diamond
I always turn to ION for Christmas mystery movies. They are pretty quirky and so fun to watch. We have the main character named Andy, who is staying with her best friend’s family. Her best friend’s mother (Margaret) invites a group of wealthy people to come in and stay with them for Christmas, including a mystery writer.
Margaret changes tradition and has Andy (the new house guest) ask her to choose which family member would get the family Christmas Diamond. She tells all of the guests to make a pitch as to why they should get the diamond. Everyone makes their pitch, and then Margaret decides they should only get the diamond. Leaving everyone in a huff, the diamond ends up missing after a blackout.
With the help of a famous mystery writer, Andy must find the real culprit amid the litany of wealthy guests, all of whom have it for her. I enjoyed how the mystery writer walked her through strategies to figure out how to create a great mystery and the clues to look for when figuring out who took the diamond.
The acting is over the top in this, but if you can get past that and you like amateur mysteries, this one had enough twists and turns to keep it fun. A combo of Clue, numerous rom-coms, and Knives Out. I enjoyed it.
